Statistics shown, 80% of U.S. children have had COVID-19
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 80% of children in the United States between the ages of 6 months to 17 years have been infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
“That means about 57 million children are estimated to have had COVID-19 nationwide at least once through June 2022. The data does not include reinfections, nor does it measure antibodies produced by vaccination. By age, an estimated 74% of 0- to 4-year-olds have been infected; 82.5% of 5- to 11-year-olds; and 80% of 12- to 17-year-olds,” reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
Masking up, in conjunction with other preventative measures, is still extremely important and the CDC recommends that people should wear masks even in areas classified with “medium” coronavirus infection levels. Wearing a mask or respirator that provides greater protection to the wearer has been recommended for individuals who are at an increased risk for severe disease.
“About 80% of the U.S. population lives in an area with “medium” or “high” COVID-19 community levels,” writes the San Francisco Chronicle.
Taking these statistics into consideration it’s clear that all of us, including our children, need to be wearing masks.
